What a Turks and Caicos snorkeling private charter actually is

A private charter is a boat and crew for your group alone. You meet at a marina, a beach or your hotel, and nobody else comes aboard. The crew runs the day around you: where you snorkel, how long you stay at each stop, when you eat and when you head back.

Most charters are priced per boat, for a group of up to six, eight or ten, so the fare does not change whether two of you come or the whole family. One Blue Haven charter is the exception, priced per person with a minimum of two. The half days run four hours; the full private day runs seven.

Every boat still reads the sea. What changes is that the captain's call is made for your group, and you can swap a choppy reef for a sheltered one without anyone else's plans in the way.

Why choose a private charter

The boat is yours

No other passengers, no snorkel group of 40 at the ladder. On a shared half day you share the reef with the boat; on a charter the crew looks after only you.

You set the route

Want an extra hour on the reef, a longer stop at Iguana Island or a sandbar swim? Say so. The private boats reach the outer cays the big catamarans leave alone.

Any age can come

The per-boat charters take any age, so a baby or a grandparent comes along at no extra cost, and you stop whenever someone needs a break.

Pickup where you stay

Several charters collect you from your hotel in Grace Bay or from Turtle Cove Marina, so the day starts at your door rather than a dock.

Room for the extras

One charter adds parasailing, one is a luxury yacht with lunch and Champagne, and the full day adds Pine Cay. None of that fits on a shared boat.

Private charters vs shared snorkel boats

Your real alternative is a seat on a shared half day. Here is the trade, from the fares themselves.

For a group of six or more, a charter can cost little more per head than a deluxe catamaran seat. For two, a shared boat is far cheaper, and the Turks and Caicos snorkel combo tours give you the reef and Iguana Island on one fare each.

What you get, and what you don’t

You get the boat, a captain and crew, and snorkel gear for your group. Most charters add drinks and snacks; the yacht and the Club Med half day add lunch or sandwiches, and the parasail charter adds a professional guide and the flight itself.

You don’t get tips, which are extra on every boat. The outer-islands boat and the full private day list snacks and drinks rather than a meal, so bring lunch if your group wants one. The marina charters do not include hotel transport, so you make your own way to Blue Haven or Turtle Cove.
